Dear Parents, I cannot believe we are entering our last month of school! There are so many emotions when I think about the end of the school year coming. This little family we have created has such a special place in my heart. I am treasuring every last minute with your sweet kiddos! Notes/Dates: May 3: Early Release- dismiss at 11:10. May 30: End of the Year Class Picnic. We would love for you to join us for a picnic lunch by the pavilion in front of school from 11:45-12:10. Siblings are welcome! May 31: Last Day of School. Dismiss at 11:10 Walk-a-thon 2024 was a success! God blessed us with a beautiful day! Thank you for your support and prayers. I love this community! We have been discussing the different emotions that characters feel in the stories we read. We used that information to make an emotions garden. A few of our garden creatures were: a nervous butterfly, a sad (crying) cloud, an angry ant, and a happy sun. I was so impressed with their ability to name and draw emotions. I was even more impressed when they were able to verbalize why the creatures were feeling these emotions. As we read this week how Jesus calmed the storm, we were reminded that Jesus will always take care of us. He is powerful and in control of whatever comes our way. He loves us deeply. It is such a joy to watch Jesus working in each one of your precious little's hearts and growing their faith. Our bean plants are growing. We planted our seeds in soil and are patiently waiting for them to grow into bean plants. Next Week:
Tuesday: Library and Music (10:00-10:45) Thursday: Spanish (8:00-8:25), Art and PE (10:00-10:45) Friday: Chapel 10:00. Early Release- dismiss at 11:10

We are currently working on partners of ten, teen numbers (ten plus extra ones), number writing, and subitizing. A little peek at outdoor education. PC: Jeni VanAuken Our final unit (crazy!) focuses on the garden. This week we conducted experiments to find out whether or not seeds need water. We drew our observations in our science journals. We will continue to gather information for the next couple weeks. We are also learning that we eat different parts of plants from the garden. We read the book "happy" by Miles VanHout. We noticed all the emotions the fish felt in the story. We thought about things and/or memories that make us feel different emotions. Our Bible stories focus on Jesus' miracles. We are in awe of God's power and Jesus' authority. We are also reminded of how much Jesus loves us and accepts us as we are. We serve such a loving God! Next Week: Tuesday: Library and Music (10:00-10:45) Thursday: Spanish (8:00-8:25), Art and PE (10:00-10:45) Friday: Field Trip to Meijer Gardens!! Dear Parents, It has been a privilege to spend this Lent season with your children as we prepare to remember Jesus' death and resurrection. We have spent time reflecting on God's promise to send someone to rescue us. It is my prayer that all of our hearts will be open to truly experience the amazing love and presence of our awesome King! Have a safe and blessed spring break with your precious families! *Field Trip to Meijer Gardens Butterfly Exhibit is Friday, April 19 **Please return permission slip before spring break. Thank you! We are architects! We learned more about castles this week. Using our prior knowledge of symmetry and shapes, we drew blueprints of a castle for the city of Hudsonville. The castles included swimming pools, slides, playgrounds, golden bridges, theaters, and lots of bedrooms. I just love their creativity. Paleontologists learn about plants, dinosaurs, and other animals from long ago by studying their fossils. To help us understand how fossils are formed, we created our own using play dough. We spent time with our second grade buddies. We showed them how to do math, literacy, and building centers. We love our buddies!!
Happy Saturday! Reminders/Notes: *Spring Break: March 28-April 7 *Field Trip to Meijer Gardens Butterfly Exhibit is Friday, April 19 **Please return permission slip before spring break. Thank you! Keeping the beat in music. We learned about castles this week. We talked about similarities and difference. We noticed the different shapes on a castle. We then used our knowledge to build castles. We enjoyed an extra recess on an extra beautiful March day. Spring is coming!! We read about the various types of dinosaurs We noticed that the dinosaurs had different features to help protect them. We created habitats for our dinosaurs. We also went on a letter search around the room...there were 26 hidden dinosaur bones! We loved taste testing the maple syrup that was made from the sap collected on the playground...the pancakes were yummy, too! HOSANNA!! Everybody praise the Lord! We are preparing our hearts for Easter. This week we read the stories of Palm Sunday and the Last Supper. We worshiped in song and retold the story of Jesus riding the colt into Jerusalem. We talked about the Lord's Supper and how that is a time to remember and be thankful for what Jesus has done for us. Jesus loves us so much!

Jesus called 12 disciples to follow him. We read about the disciple, John. He followed Jesus even though he was young. We talked about how others will know who Jesus is by the way we treat others. We want to become like Jesus- to be his hands and feet. We talked about people in our lives that help us grow closer to God. We are so thankful God gave us Moms and Dads to point us to Jesus. We continue to work on putting sounds together to make words. We hopped on large dots on the floor to listen for beginning, middle, and last sounds in words. We then formed teams (team names were cookies, cupcakes, and donuts- so funny!) and raced to build words with giant letters. I love their imaginations! This week we practiced writing the lower case letters e, l, and k. We played math games to practice counting and subtilizing. We are learning the importance of retelling and carrying out simple procedures. We made bookmarks by following step by step directions. We are game makers! The objective was to make games for our friends by using the given materials. Wow! I was so impressed with their creativity, problem solving skills, and ability to work together. :) We had a little afternoon fun on the Kids' Corner playground. We spent time drawing pictures of things that begin with different sounds. They are getting so good at identifying initial sounds in words. Math games are the best. Fine motors, counting, subitizing, and working together were all goals of the colorful snowman game. Ice skating to the beat in music.

February 13 and 15: Parent-Teacher Conferences February 16-19: Winter Break- No School We met with our second grade buddies. We made books, snowflakes, played games, and read together. I am not sure if the older kids or the younger kids enjoy it more! :) We played a fun matching game to help us learn the Spanish words for shapes. We have been focusing on how-to-texts. We discussed the importance of details when teaching someone how to do something. This was very evident when they tried to teach me how to brush my teeth. Where does the toothpaste go? Which end do I brush with? SO funny! We then followed the steps to make our own snow person using play dough. Ask your child to teach you to do something. On Fridays, we join the other young five class to sing praises to our Heavenly Father. I love listening to them worship Jesus through song and motions. Have I mentioned how blessed I am to spend my days with your precious kiddos?! Recognizing and identifying emotions is important. Using characters from the stories we are reading, we are making connections to our feelings. Are we afraid, worried, frustrated, sad, confused? We read the book, "How to Apologize" by David LaRochelle. This is an adorable picture book with silly examples that share how to and how not to say "I'm sorry." We all make mistakes and even though it may feel hard to apologize, it really can be easy.
